The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has released the 2009 State of the World Population Report, entitled, “Facing a Changing World: Women, Population and Climates.” The report focuses on how population dynamics affect greenhouse gases and climate change and finds that poor women in poor countries are among the hardest hit by climate change, even though they contribute the least to it.

The study argues that the international community’s fight against climate change is more likely to be successful if policies, programs and treaties take into account the needs, rights and potential of women.
